Dear Families:

Apologies for the one day delay in this week's ePack message.  I attended the CACE/Title I conference Wednesday night through Friday and was unable to get to my message on Thursday. There were some very interesting speakers at this conference and it is always good to step away from school for some good professional development.

Good News:  Shaws Supermarket is donating $400 to our school!  We are accepting the check on Monday, December 5th.  I'll work with the PTO to decide how to utilize the funds.

School "Report Card":  On Friday, December 9th, I will release our school's "report card" based on our spring 2016 MCAS results.

Student Report Cards:  Students in grades 1-5 will receive their Trimester I report cards on Monday, December 12th.  The report card will be in an yellow envelope - please sign and return that envelope.

PTO Meeting:  Our next PTO meeting is Monday, December 12th at 7:00 p.m.

PBIS/Compliment Cards:  Our students reached their November target of 250 compliment cards/stars on their classroom comet posters!  Therefore, we will be watching a movie in the auditorium as their reward.  Date TBD.

There are many postings in today's ePack.  Please be sure to check them out.

Have a great weekend!

ePack #9

Dear Families:

Thank you for attending Title I Family Night last night!  The Title I staff (Mrs. Brems - Director, Mrs. McGinley - Title I teacher, Ms. Augoustakis - Title I paraprofessional) worked very hard to prepare for last night, so I hope you enjoyed the evening.  If you were unable to make it, we will be holding other Family Nights this school year.

No School:  Please remember that there is no school on Tuesday, November 8th (Professional Development Day) and Friday, November 11th (Veterans Day).

Compliment Cards:  For the month of November, the children need to earn 250 Compliment Cards to earn a "spirit day" at the end of the month.  I have full confidence the children can do it!

Dismissal:  There have been some children playing football in the Barrows Street parking lot at dismissal time recently.  Please speak to your child about this and that it is not allowed due to safety concerns.  Thanks!

PTO Meeting:  Our next PTO meeting is Monday, November 14th at 7:00 p.m.

Parent-Teacher Conferences:  Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 17th and Friday, November 18th.  Both days are early dismissals at 11:30 a.m. and no school for half day kindergarten students.

ePack #8

Dear Families:

It looks like we're getting ALL of the rain now we should have gotten during the summer! I would like to thank all of the parent volunteers we have had lately in our classrooms and at the Book Fair.  We appreciate your time!

Parent/Teacher Conference Forms:  These are due back on Monday, October 31st. Please contact the school if you need another form.

Title I Family Night:  An invitation was sent home home about this event.  Please return your invitation by Monday, October 31st.  We hope to see you!

Reminders:  There is no school on Tuesday, November 8th due to Professional Development Day and again on Friday, November 11th due to Veterans' Day.

PTO Meeting Notes:  If you were unable to attend our meeting this past Monday, the notes are posted in the PTO section of our web page.

Dental Visit:  Our grade one classrooms were visited by "Buddy the Beaver" and our friends from the Pediatric Dental Healthcare office this week!  Ask your child about what they learned.

That's all for this week!  Enjoy your weekend.

ePack #7

Dear Families:

I attended the MassCUE conference at Gillette Stadium for the last two days with Mrs. Brems, Mrs. Silva (Gr. 5) and Mrs. Bolton from Community School.  A few other North Attleboro staff members attended, as well.  I would like you to know that Mrs. Mary Rego Perry, ELC Director and Associate Director of Special Education, covered Community School in my absence.  I am looking forward to bringing some new ideas back to our school!

School Photos:  Reminder that School Picture Day is tomorrow, Friday, October 21st. Please make sure your child remembers his/her order form.

Halloween Book Fair Party:  I sent out a Remind message about this earlier this week. The party, originally scheduled for this Friday night, was cancelled by the PTO due to lack of volunteers.  Sorry! Hopefully, we can try something in the spring.

PTO Meeting: This has been rescheduled to Monday, October 24th at 7:00 p.m.

Grade 3:  Our third graders will be visiting the Richards Memorial Library on Monday, October 24th.

Parent/Teacher Conference Forms:  These were sent home recently.  Please return them to school as soon as possible.

Scholastic Book Fair:  Thank you very much to Mrs. McHoul and all of our volunteers for making the Book Fair possible the last few days!

That's all for now.  Have an enjoyable weekend!

Mr. Gaudette

ePack #6

Dear Families:

We had two assemblies on Tuesday to kick off our Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS).  I'm sure you have heard of our "compliment cards" by now.  Children earn a compliment card for exhibiting positive behavior.  For example, a child may earn a card for helping a fellow student pick up a set of papers he/she dropped or for using excellent manners in the cafeteria. Each time a student earns a compliment card, a star is earned for the student's classroom comet poster.  50 stars = reward for the classroom.

Students can also earn a "Golden Compliment Card" for doing something "above and beyond".  We added another layer to our PBIS this year - if the school earns 200 stars by October 31st, the school earns a "spirit day".  We are looking forward to handing out many more compliment cards!

Soup and Cookie Fundraiser:  Forms for this fundraiser are due tomorrow!  Thank you very much for your support!

Parent/Teacher Conferences:  Sign up forms were sent home today.  Some teachers may not have gotten to their mailboxes to send them home today, so you will get the form tomorrow.  Please return your form as soon as possible.  The deadline to return the form is October 31, 2016.

School Picture Day:  This takes place on Friday, October 21st.  Picture order forms were sent home today.  Again, if you did not receive it today, it will be sent home tomorrow.

PTO:  Our next PTO meeting is Monday, October 17th at 7:00 p.m.

Reading Logs:  Most students are not turning in their weekly reading logs.  Completing these logs is not an optional homework assignment.  It is very important that the logs are completed so children continue to improve their reading skills.

New Mobile Laptop Cart:  I am happy to announce that our Technology Department is just about finished with our new laptop cart.  Once this cart is completed, we will have two mobile labs for our students to utilize.

That's all for now!  Have a great weekend.

Mr. Gaudette

ePack #5

Dear Families:

Effective Tuesday, October 11th, the Community School doors will remain locked until 8:05 a.m.  As stated in our Student Handbook, arrival begins at 8:05 a.m.  Although I asked parents not to drop off children prior to 8:05 a.m. at Open House, the practice continued. The children are not supervised until 8:05 a.m. per the teachers' contract.  Once the doors open at 8:05 a.m., the children may proceed to either the gym or to breakfast.  8:05 a.m. is the arrival time for the Amvet, Community, ELC and Roosevelt Schools.  Thank you for your understanding.

Walk to School Day:  Our annual Walk to School Day was well-attended!  Thanks for walking with us last Wednesday.  Big thanks to Nurse Burke for organizing this event.

Recess:  Unfortunately, we've had some rough play at recess lately.  This weekend, I purchased some recess buckets for the children to have access to more equipment at recess.  Thanks to Mrs. Garrott, P.E. teacher, for assisting me with this project.  I am hopeful with more things to play with at recess, the rough play will decrease.

MCAS Results:  If you have a current grade four or grade five student, you received your child's MCAS results from last spring.  Please read these reports carefully.

PTO Meeting:  Our next meeting is Monday, October 17th at 7:00 p.m.

Stop & Shop Card:  Please see the posting in this week's ePack regarding registering your Stop & Shop card to benefit our school.  It's very easy to do!

That's all for now!

Mr. Gaudette

She spent most of her career at the Amvet Blvd. School.  I worked with Diane at Allen Avenue School.  She wrapped up her career here at Community School during the month of September.  Enjoy retirement, Mrs. Guyot!  Best wishes!

ePack #3

Dear Families:

Sorry for the delay!  I was just simply unable to complete the ePack Thursday and Friday of last week.  Many of you have had concerns about the bee problem at recess time.  We tried to combat this by covering our trash, spraying and moving the Park and Recreation Department barrels to a different location.  However, those efforts did not work.  Therefore, we will have the children eat snack either right before or after recess in their classrooms. There will be no food outside until the bees hibernate for the winter.

PTO:  The meeting notes from this past Monday's meeting have been posted in today's ePack and in the PTO section of our web site.

Bus Passes:  Thank you for attaching your child's bus pass to his/her backpack.  If you filled out the paperwork for a bus pass and did not receive one, please contact the main office at 508.643.2148.

Social Emotional Learning:  There is a presentation this Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at North Attleboro High School.  All are invited to attend.

School Council:  We are looking for one parent representative to be on our School Council. Please see the paperwork in today's ePack.

Congratulations to our "Summer Reader" winners!  Nice job, everyone!

Hope you enjoyed this weekend's beautiful weather!

Mr. Gaudette

ePack #2

Dear Families:

Thank you very much for coming to Open House last night!  We had a great showing from students and parents.  Thank you for visiting other parts of our school, as well.  We just finished our first full week of school and our hope is that the children are becoming used to their new environments and routines.

PTO:  Please remember that our first PTO meeting is this upcoming Monday, September 19th, at 7:00 p.m.  Please join us!

Student Handbook:  Please review the Student Handbook by clicking here.  You can also return a receipt indicating you have read the Handbook.  The sign off is located here.

Bees:  You may have heard about the bees on the playground.  Mr. Rancourt has addressed this issue and we feel we are in good shape at this point.

Bus Passes:  If you filled out paperwork for a bus pass, we should be receiving those in the very near future.

Thursday, September 22nd:  This day will be a Patriots Rally Day!  Staff and students are encouraged to wear their gear to school!

That's all for this week.  Enjoy your weekend!

Mr. Gaudette

Afternoon Dismissal:  Parents are not allowed to park in the staff parking lot on the Barrows St. side of the building or in our neighbors' driveways.  Thank you for your cooperation!
